META-INDEX for Psychiatry and Clinical Psychology to Major, High Quality Hot-Buttoned Indexes with Links to all major General Resources on the 'NET
(** Click on the description and go there !! **)

NOTE: If you are looking for my free Universal Inventory/Test Scorer OR my Peer
Counselor Effectiveness Predictor, then click this link: http://cyberper.cnc.net/index.htm
and see the bottom of that index page.
If you have come here without passing through the entry page for my web site
(http://cyberper.cnc.net/index.htm OR it.html) please visit that page as well as this one.
ALSO NOTE: This meta-index BELOW is circa 1999 and many of the links are dead. What links remain
active are good. Links 342-345 are links to more of the writings of B. Jesness. Enjoy.
(May 2005 Update: Most of the dead links have been removed; this accounts for the skipped numbers)

A new sort of index to good psychiatry and psychology sites has emerged: the META-INDEX. Such an index lists (and provides hot buttons to) only the following: the very best "comprehensive" indexes (on other sites), related to the area of focus, *AND* uniquely good sites (in the area of focus). This is a Meta-Index for general psychiatry and clinical psychology. (Note: The meta-indexes do tend to stay focused, with sites only *for a particular profession*. So they do their job of being both truely good and truely thorough VERY WELL, little unique to other areas of psychology may be found there.) Enjoy.

These sites have been categorized by the predominant type of site each is. Each site has been listed ONLY ONCE by what seems to be its predominant topic (sometimes the placement was really quite arbitrary). Because of this, it is important to peruse the entire list of sites if you want to be thorough.

I would like suggestions for further inclusions. DO NOT HESITATE TO WRITE WITH SITES YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE ADDED (given they seem to conform to the purpose of this site) !! I am also seeking help in categorizing the sites (as much as possible). In addition, it would be helpful to get input on the ones (by number) people find most valuable. *** OTHER SITES OF INTEREST ***

340 *** NOTE ****: A VERY large, though less discriminate list of many of my *favorite* bookmarks, containing most of those in this META-index, but also many, many more (**100s more**). If you have not yet found what you are looking for (because, for example, it is more specific), click HERE. The site may also be worth your perusal since most of the sites on this META-index are listed by the briefer site name (rather than the typically longer description I provide here, on the META-index). Sorry for the repeats, though. ALSO, IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING QUITE SPECIFIC, BE SURE TO SEE THE LAST HOT-BUTTONED SITE ON THIS PAGE.

341 Be sure to read the home page of the author of this Meta-Index. It offers a critique of the counseling/psychotherapy field and solutions (along with another major paper and an algorithm for scoring your own assessment inventories !!)

Now, addressing aspects of the web page (#341), hot-buttoned directly above. Re: Computer Inventory Scoring Algorithm, on this web site (a program to fully score personality inventories ONESELF):

A quote from a satisfied user: "... The program performs well and appears to be accurate. It is a no frills straightforward scoring program that will allow you to calculate the raw scores as well as the T-scores. Written in basic the program is easy to use and to modify to other psychometric instruments. The program will score forced choice T-F and Multiple choice instruments. The accompanying instructions ( If followed faithfully) are very clear and easy to follow. Through the kindness of Mr. Jesness the program is in the public domain. It is available through his web site. " (end quote) This program can be used to score ANY forced choice inventory, even ones with 100 + scales.

The main paper at the web site hot-buttoned above is the one which offers a critique of the counseling/psychotherapy field as it is today, etc. This paper has been read in-full and given enthusiastic positive reviews by major clinical and counseling professors, including Allen Ivey, Alvin Mahrer, and Robyn Dawes. It has been considered an important paper by Paul Barrett of the U.K. (in his view, indicating important topics of needed research). It has been considered worthy of discussion in professional circles by Carroll Izard and Paul Meehl.

The third paper on this other web site of mine (the SECOND one appearing on the web page, following the critique of the counseling/psychotherapy field) outlines an Ethological Conceptualiation of Learning (in terms of the development of interrelated capacities).

I have two other papers I have written that may be of interest to readers:

342 "How YOU Can Tell if PSYCHOLOGICAL Treatments ARE GOOD (Usually)" -- a summary of some research and of a meta-analysis on this topic.

343 "General Realities and the American Vision" -- a paper on the psychology of religion and religious doubt, its adaptive utility examined and understood naturalistically in terms of neo-Freudian theory.

ANNOUNCING THE AVAILABLITY OF AN OBJECTIVE, RESEARCH-BASED TOOL TO AID IN THE SELECTION OF PEER COUNSELORS OR CANDIDATES FOR COUNSELING/CLINICAL GRADUATE TRAINING PROGRAMS !!:
344 If you own a PC AND are running Internet Explorer 4.72 or above, this is an on-line Peer Counsleor Effective Predictor **program**. It takes in a subject's 20 t-scores on the main scales of the California Psychological Inventory and calculates a score of how good a peer counselor that person would be. It is entirely researched-based and has been successfully piloted on a group of counselors-in-training (masters candidates). It correlated moderately with a global rating of effectiveness by these candidate's supervisor (blind to the peer counselor predictor score).

THE MAIN RESEARCH ON WHICH THE TOOL IS BASED:
345 Bibliography of the major sources (from the literature review) on which the Peer Counselor Effectiveness Predictor is based. All ratings and weightings involved in the Peer Counselor Effectiveness Predictor formula are rationally based on the research literature. Further cooperation in doing research on this measure is welcomed and encouraged. Please e-mail me.

** ANOTHER ** RESOURCE FOR FINDING GOOD WEB SITES:

346 If you ever need to do a more specific search, use a valuable search tool: Go to http://www.hotbot.com (by clicking anywhere here). Change the box that says "all the words" to "Boolean phrase". Then, in the "search box", type in the terms you would require for any web page you would be interested, with each term separated by the word "AND" (no quotes). You can also use "OR" and parentheses and possibly other aspects of Boolean expressions for a refined search.

AGAIN: W/R to the Meta-Index Web Page: It is my hope that people will send me suggestions for additions for this web page. This shall be the only way this web page can remain reasonably up-dated as the web resources grow possibly at an exponential rate. (last updated 05.24.99)
